Murrumbidgee had another epic run at the CHS Swimming Championships in Homebush last week. The three-day swimming extravaganza saw 17 Murrumbidgee students swim against the best in the state over 3, 4 and 5 May.
The team collectively produced 14 personal best times. Nicole Taylor once again blew the competition out of the water in the Multi Class S15 category, winning:
- 1st – 50m Breaststroke in a new CHS record
- 2nd – 50m Fly
- 2nd – 100m Backstroke
- 2nd – 50m Backstroke
- 2nd – 100m Freestyle
- 2nd – 200m Individual Medley
- 2nd – 50m Freestyle
The relay results were also outstanding:
- The 12 x 50m freestyle relay team (Piper Stewart, Kobi Carden, Adellaide Wilkinson, Jono Davies, Ellie Matthews, Paige Sergi, Nate Sergi, Chaise Sergi, Lane Stewart, Nicole Taylor, Matisse Salvestro, Charlie Wallace-Chapman) placed 7th in the state with an astounding huge 5.98 second personal best.
- The girls open medley relay team (Piper Stewart, Nicole Taylor, Matisse Salvestro, Paige Sergi) placed 18th with a 2.58 second PB.
- The girls 6 x 50m freestyle relay (Isabella Ceccato, Ellie Matthews, Sophie Webb, Adellaide Wilkinson, Paige Sergi, Nicole Taylor) placed 20th. This team consisted of one swimmer form each age group.
Perhaps the most exciting swim of the day though, was the invitational relay. Consisting of Piper Stewart, Paige Sergi, Matisse Salvestro and Nicole Taylor, the team was selected to represent Riverina.
The girls started 14 seconds behind the first team (Holsworthy). Piper had a great first leg narrowing the 14 second lead that Holsworthy had on MRHS to a 9 second lead. Paige Sergi swimming in her 10th event of the meet gained another 4 seconds on the first team. Matisse Salvestro swam her 50m leg, gaining the last few seconds needed to touch the wall at the same time as the Holsworthy swimmer making for an exciting last lap. Nicole Taylor swam stoke by stroke with the Holsworthy swimmer to touch the wall first in a 29 second last lap. The girls' official time was 2.17.57 winning the team the gold medal.
Well done to all of our swimmers for competing and achieving at such a high level. Special thanks to Lyndal Davies for her fantastic photos of the event.
