Year 10 Use Technology To Explore Trigonometry

Trigononmetry Sphero

This term, our Year 10 Mathematics students worked with Sphero programmable robots to explore trigonometry.

Sphero are code based, ball shaped robots that the students can use to develop their STEM and coding knowledge. The devices themselves come equipped with a suite of programmable sensors and motors and an LCD screen.

The class worked with Mr Preston and Mrs Kalirai to apply trigonometric formulas using the Sphero BOLT+ Coding Robots. With their guidance, the students learned to use the SpheroEdu app to assist in constructing special triangles. They then applied SOH CAH TOA, the Cosine rule and sine rule to justify the measurements of sides and angles.

The students also used this opportunity to discuss human error and the range of variables that impacted the construction of right angled and non right-angled triangles.

The class was made possible through MASE, who provided the robots and facilitated the workshop with Mrs Kalirai.
