MRHS - Griffith Compete in Cudmore Shield

Cudmore Shield

Unfortunately, the last few matches in the Cudmore shield were cancelled because of the heatwave. However, our teams thoroughly enjoyed the matches that were played earlier this month.

The MRHS – Griffith 7/8 and 9/10 boys teams played against Marian at Jubilee on 2 December. The weather was sweltering, but it didn’t deter our cricketers from putting in the best performance they could muster.

Our 9/10 boys were beaten thoroughly, with Marian taking approximately 40 more runs than their Griffith counterparts. Despite the loss, there were some heroic efforts on the Griffith side with Daniel Mitchell and Fletcher Robertson chalking up more than 60 runs between them and Heet Patel bowling a good line and length.

“The boys had a great game,” recounts coach Sam Ranney, “The game was played in good spirits with a lot of laughter and good banter on the pitch.”

Across the grounds, our 7/8 boys scored a resounding 70 run win against Marian. After winning the toss, Captain Reif Leach opened the betting with an amazing innings of 46. Paxton Fall, Kye Campbell and Toby Rand were solid in the middle order contributing to Griffith’s 120 over 20 overs.

Reif Leach and Abas Shah took 4 wickets over three overs, with the remaining wickets shared between Paxton Fall, Mason Caughey, and Vyom Payal. Bradley Whitworth also deserves praise for his work behind the stumps.

“It was great to have Joe Cudmore come down to talk to both the teams before the match about sportsmanship and the history of the Shield,” explains coach Mr. Chirgwin, “Thank you to the Leach family for scoring and supplying equipment on the day.”

Well done once again to all of our players and special thanks to Joe Cudmore for keeping cricket alive in our schools!
