Our Year 9 Child Studies students learned about the business of caring for children at Goodstart Coolah Street yesterday.
The class spent an hour at the local childcare, playing with the kids and chatting to the staff about the expectations of someone working in childcare. The staff were only too happy to pass on their experience in the field and spoke to the girls about opportunities in the industry and school based traineeships.
The excursion complimented the class’s current unit on Growth and Development where they have been studying physical, emotional, linguistic, behavioural, social and cognitive development in young brains. They’ve also been studying the ideal environments where this development can be cultivated.
“An excursion like this challenges our students by putting them outside of their comfort zones,” explains Child Studies teacher Cailyn Loveday, “Even our shy students engaged with children of all ages. They did really well.”
The class will now move onto to study the benefits and consequences of children interacting with technology in the upcoming term.
