MRHS Students Represent Griffith at Moorambilla Riversong 2024

Moorambilla Riversong 2024

Last term, students Lesley Lemoto, James Ulupano, Marquez Popole Tuisamoa and Annalyce Mateo represented MRHS – Griffith at Moorambilla Riversong 2024.

The brainchild of Michelle Leonard OAM, Moorambilla Voices is a choir of excellence that encompasses regional children and youth. More than 300 students from regional and rural NSW participated in the 2024 program.

Our students’ journey began after attending a free workshop run in at the school earlier in the year. After accepting an offer to join the ensemble, our students had the rare and valuable opportunity to connect with Australian composers, musicians, choreographers and visual artists to create a new multimedia work and learn advanced performance skills.

During a five-day residency camp at Baradine in August, the students learned choral singing, compositional techniques, percussion, Taiko (Japanese drumming), dance and movement skills. An additional five-day residency camp was held at Dubbo last term which culminated in the gala concert.

‘Moorambilla was the best thing I’ve done in my life,’ Lesley said. ‘I learned so much, but my favourite activity was Taiko drumming. It was a fun, powerful new experience. Moorambilla taught me that I can go anywhere, meet new people from all over NSW and easily make new friends.’

Well done to all of the crew who made the performance possible. Special thanks to our PICLO Nau Mahe for driving and supervising our students.
