MRHS Girls Create Public Art for Her Way Project

Her Way Project

Students have been creating art to beautify public land as part of Griffith City Council’s Her Way Project.

The Her Way project is part of a partnership between Griifth City Council and Transport NSW. It aims to make public spaces feel safer for everyone, especially women, girls and gender diverse people.

The MRHS artists were sourced from both Griffith and Wade. Among them were the students who were involved in the initial consultation for the project and some of our extremely talented ALEC artists.

Our painters were lucky enough to be mentored by local artist Karissa Undy. Karissa spoke to the girls about her journey as an artist, showed them how to select and mix colours and discussed creating meaning through art.

“One of the points we discussed during the consultation phase for Her Way was artwork,” explains student Lusiana Isaia, “There were places that we thought could use more colour to make them more inviting and to make us feel safer.”

Once finished, the artworks will undergo a special process where they will be laser scanned, converted into a vinyl wrap and then wrapped around the bollards on Yambil St.
