Year 10 Bids Farewell to Aleks

Year 10 Food Technology bid farewell to Polish exchange student Aleksandra with a banquet of traditional Australian cuisine.

Among the foods represented were fairy bread, party pies, sausage rolls, cocktail franks, lamingtons and Tim Tams. The lesson was treated as a cultural exchange with Aleks teaching the Griffith kids how to make a Polish delicacy: pierogi.

“I thought there was going to be massive spiders and people were going to have kangaroos in their backyards,” Aleks says of her preconceptions of rural Australia, “But people here have been very civilised and nice.”

“It was amazing to experience life in Griffith,” explains Aleks, “It’s pretty cool that most people know each other when they are walking along the street.”

“Kids are happier here than in Poland,” she adds, “They’re always busy playing sports. In Poland, because it’s always cold we just go home and watch Tiktok after school.”

Although Aleksandra is still on our books for another week, she’ll be spending her time playing golf with the Riverina Reps in Dubbo. Thank you to Kristin McLauchlan for hosting Aleks throughout her stay.
