Year 12 Investigate the Language of Sport

Year 12 English students have been using the language of sport to create videos explaining the rules to their favourite sports.

As part of their Playing the Game unit, the class have been investigating the persuasive language of sports advertising, the motivational language of sporting coaches and the informative language of instructional coaching.

The students were given a choice between writing a biography of an influential sporting personality, constructing a skills video for a sport or writing a feature article showcasing their own point of view on a current issue in sport.

The students who chose to create a video were required to script, film and edit the production in small groups. Among the sports they selected to cover were basketball, rugby league and rugby league tag.
