The mad scientists in Year 9 Science have been building braincells from playdough, toothpicks and pipe cleaners.
The students, who are studying the endocrine and nervous systems, were challenged with recreating a neuron in class. The finished products demonstrated their resourcefulness and creativity expressing a complicated scientific concept.
“It’s important that the students regularly get to do some hands-on learning,” explains Year 9 Science teacher Ms Sumedha, “Instead of just having the students focus on the theory of the nervous system, I thought it would be beneficial for them make a model of a neuron and get to know all of the individual parts of the cell.”
The class will now move on to study acids, bases, elements and compounds in their chemistry unit.
