Year 12 Plant Trees For National Tree Day

National Tree Day

Students from Year 12 Agriculture got into the spirit of National Tree Day today planting 20 seedlings in the Ag Farm.

The red-flowering eucalypt, acacias, hopbush and Wallaby grass will serve as a windbreak and create shade for livestock. They’re also quite easy on the eyes.

“We are trying to attract more native birds including the glossy black cockatoo and these trees will aid with the wildlife corridor in this area of Griffith,” explains teacher Carl Chirgwin, “It will also be great for the students to enhance these trees with the addition of birdhouses over the coming school terms.”

National Tree Day will be held on Sunday 28 July. Members of the school community are encouraged to lend a hand at Lake Wyangan Picnic Area from 9am-1pm. Don’t forget to bring your own gloves, a trowel/shovel, a water bottle, and a hat.

A huge thank you to Narrandera Landcare for donating the seedings, tree guards and stakes.
