Our Year 11 Business Studies and Work Studies classes combined yesterday to run their own paper plane companies.
The students had to work in teams to analyse the operations, figure out marketing and manage human resources to get their paper plane companies off the ground (pardon the pun).
Some groups focused on marketing, some focused on the business admin and others focused on the finished product (with one group creating over 80 prototypes at the expense of every other aspect of the project). The students, however, were assessed on the sum total of their business activities.
“We were really impressed with how the teams worked together,” explains Business Studies teacher Caprice Skinner, “It turns out SLSO Tui is a dark horse when it comes to making paper planes, so that helped the students out a lot.”
“We’ve been doing workplace issues and how to solve disputes in class,” explains Work Studies teacher Taylah Reynolds, “I was thrilled to hear there was no yelling or arguments. They must have been listening in class.”
The Business Studies students will now move onto preparing for their exams while Work Studies will move onto study job application processes and will complete work experience in the coming weeks.
