Year 8 Create New Green Space Using Upcycling

Ag Garden

For their Agriculture unit, Year 8 Technology were challenged to use upcycling to create insect hotels and gardens.

The students used the design process to research, test, evaluate and modify their projects. The class were able to use recycled corrugated iron, corflute, bamboo, plastic and local vegetation for the assignment.

The garden the students created will serve as a community food garden for the school. Students will be able to pick snow peas, broad beans, strawberries, and lettuce. The insect hotels will encourage native pollinators to help the crops to thrive.

“Each student involved is to be commended on their work output as each design worked extremely quite well and has created an aesthetically pleasing space within the school,” exclaims Agriculture teacher Carl Chirgwin, “We’d like to thank the Creative Industries Faculty, Mr. Taprell, Mr. Ciampa and Mr. Badham for their guidance and support with all their projects.”

The students’ work has been entered in a National Landcare Competition with winners to be announced in September.
