This term we had young aspiring blacksmiths build their own firepits at TAFE’s Forge Your Career in Metals and Manufacturing program.
The program aims to encourage more young people in the Riverina region to explore careers in the metals and manufacturing industry. Over the 8 weeks the students learned to read designs, cut, grind and weld safely and effectively. They also toured local businesses to explore how these skills are used in the industry.
The manufacturing industry is currently contending with an aging workforce with the median age of employees sitting at 42 years. The emerging renewables sector means young, skilled labour is increasingly in demand.
Well done to the Year 10s who completed the program and thank you to TAFE – Griffith for hosting our students!
