Year 12 SLR Explore the Great Outdoors

Orienteering

Year 12 SLR put all of their SLR knowledge to good use last term for their orienteering assessment.

The assessment was part of the class’s outdoor education unit. The unit covers activities like snorkelling, mountain biking and bush walking. It also contains essential information about safe camping and bush survival and aims to minimise the effects of these activities on the environment.

The orienteering challenge took place on school grounds and challenged students to find various points plotted on a map. At each point, students located a question relating to the unit which they then had to answer.

Mr Ruming also took the opportunity to use sticks to calculate true north in lieu of a compass. He also challenged students to find the southern cross to help them determine true south.

The class have since moved on to study games and sports application.
