On Friday, Year 10 Work Education and Year 11 and 12 Work Studies students went to learn about the power of volunteering with community services at the Griffith SES Unit.
The Griffith students got to hear about about the importance of volunteer driven organisations like the SES and the many personal and career opportunities they can provide. They also got to see some of the amazing tools the SES have at their disposal in action.
“From floods and storm damage to road crash rescue and even recovering animals from danger, the students were able to see just how vital volunteer work can be in our community,” explains teacher Melissa Laidler.
“They really loved engaging with the hands-on aspects, and I think they got a better understanding of the skills and community that they can gather through volunteering.,” adds Mrs Laidler, “We are very thankful to the members of the Griffith SES Unit for giving up their time to show our students just how important this unpaid work can be.”
The Griffith SES will be running a 10 week cadet program for anyone looking to join the service. If you are interested, there will be an information session on Tuesday 1 April at 6pm at The Griffith SES Headquarters on Oaks Road.
