Year 11 have been pumping iron for their first SLR unit on resistance training.
The class have been using free weights, bar bells, dumb bells, rowing machines and exercise bikes to improve their physical fitness. They ‘ve also been exploring body weight exercises that don’t rely on expensive gym equipment like box jumps, air jumps and push ups.
The class will work towards creating their own workout regime that will target all of the major muscle groups for an upcoming assessment. The class will also be expected to adhere to basic gym etiquette and safe lifting practice during their workouts.
“There are many benefits to resistance training,” explains SLR teacher Sam Ranney, “It helps you stay healthy and active and it improves performance in sport.”
“Teenagers love weights,” adds Mr Ranney, “but they don’t always know the best way to use them safely and effectively. That’s why we’re teaching them the correct technique.”
Year 11 SLRs understanding of resistance training will set them up for their upcoming unit on games and sport.
