As part of their First Aid Unit, Year 11 PDHPE completed their first aid and CPR national accreditation today.
The courses, which were taught by Terry from Surf Life Saving Australia, look great on a resume and could save a life. Through the day, students took the opportunity to practice the application of bandages, learn about mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and how to handle a variety of first aid scenarios.
The class also practiced compressions using computerised CPR mannequins. The dolls detected the force and frequency of compressions and graded them on the effectiveness of their CPR.
“CPR and first aid can make a huge difference in a crisis,” explains PDHPE teacher Sam Ranney, “The more people that know these skills and have the confidence to use them, the better the outcome.”
