Yesterday, our open boys basketball team headed down to Bomaderry to play against some of the best teams in the state.
The boys played two games through the day with the first against Figtree High School. It was a slow start to the match for Griffith, with the team down 28-6 at half time.
The team were flustered and couldn’t control themselves. After they recomposed themselves, however, they managed to get their head in the game. The final score was 61 – 40 Figtree’s way.
The second match against Engadine was another tough one for the boys. Engadine had a height advantage and Griffith struggled to drive to the hoop. MRHS changed their strategy to rely on their three-point shooters, but still ultimately lost 69 – 42.
“Overall, we were competitive, but the other schools were stronger recounts coach Sam Ranney, “Riley Curran and Kieran Casey controlled the plays and Connor Vecchio was good on the rebounds.”
The trip wasn’t all work though. On the day before the match, the team managed to take a leisurely walk along the scenic Shoalhaven River and enjoyed a succulent Chinese meal.
Well done to our team for making it to the top 20 teams in NSW and thank you to Sam Ranney and Brad Lemon for making the trip possible.
