MRHs - Griffith Zone Swimming Carnival

Our best MRHS – Griffith swimmers faced tough competition from schools across the region at the Southwest Zone Swimming Carnival yesterday.

Held at the Leeton Regional Aquatic Centre in the searing 38-degree heat, some 28 of our students showcased their skills and sportsmanship against swimmers from seven schools.

There were numerous age champions in the cohort. Notably, students Addison Cowie (15 Year Girls Age Champion), Lane Stewart (17 – 19 Year Boys Age Champion) and Darby Robertson (15 Year Boys Age Champion) all managed to score a place on the podium. Clare Doubleday not only managed to take out the 13 Year Girls Age Champion, she also managed to smash the previous standing 13 Girls breast stroke record.

Overall, the day was a resounding success, with 14 Griffith competitors earning a chance to progress through to the Riverina Swimming Carnival on 11 March. The teams’ hard work and dedication to the sport ultimately landed them 4th place in the competition with 29 new personal best times. Supervising staff were also incredibly proud of the students not only for their achievements in the pool, but for their teamwork, their support for each other and their sportsmanship.

“Their excellent behaviour and participation throughout the day highlighted the true spirit of the competition,” beamed supervising teacher Allison Stewart proudly, “Congratulations to all competitors and best of luck to those moving onto the next level of the competition.”
