Senior SLR students Dustin and Junior taught the Year 7 and 8s some new skills as a part of their Sports Coaching Unit last term.
The class had to build on their coaching theory by designing a 20-minute session focusing on a specific sports skill. The session had to feature a warmup, a short game that showcased the skill that they were cultivating and a cooldown at the end.
Dustin and Junior were specifically focusing on frisbee skills with a feeding the chicken and high knees warm up. And although the whole task only took a total of 20 minutes, the seniors were exhausted by the end.
“I think they realised that teaching is harder than it looks,” mused SLR teacher Matt Ruming, “They certainly walked away with a newfound appreciation for the work PE teachers do.”
SLR have since moved onto learn about outdoor recreation and are currently working towards their orienteering assessment.
